Grandpa Bernard, Grandma Liz, and Cousin Jared have been visiting us since they took the Amtrak to Salem last Thursday. The train was about six hours late, but they had a good time anyway.
We've been doing a lot together, and I've been having a lot of fun. On Saturday we went to World Beat at the riverfront in Salem. Both the music and the food were excellent!
On Sunday we visited the Starrs in Portland, and I got a chance to play with Lucy and Noor, two of my other cousins. There were neat adults in attendance as well.
On Monday, we visited the Portland Zoo at Washington Park. I liked all the animals. I'm not sure if I had a favorite, but the giraffes were neat. I had fun walking and trying to keep up with Jared. That evening, we watched Dad play soccer. He even scored a goal (or two).
Yesterday, my friend Abby and her mom Cindy came over and we all baked sugar cookies. Later I went to Amadeus Cafe for lunch followed by a Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball game. It's been a very busy week, but I've had a lot of fun!
So apparently I have Roseola, a viral infection of infants and small kids characterized by high fever (been there, done that) and skin rash (doing that currently). I guess I'm going to have this rash about my body for a couple of days, then I should (finally!) be free and clear. I can tell you that I feel a whole lot better since my fever went away.
There is no specific treatment at this point, and the disease usually goes away on its own. I guess by one year old 86 percent of kids have HHV6 antibodies; by four years old almost all kids have them. I guess now I have them too.
OK, this week should have been a lot better. After being sick a week ago and feeling better on Saturday, I got sick again with a secondary viral infection and ran a temperature between 100 and 102 these last few days. My food and water intake and output were good, but all I wanted to do was cry. I felt miserable and nobody could make me feel better no matter how hard they tried. (At least the Kids Tylenol was tasty.)
Finally, I woke up today and my fever was gone. Once again I'm starting to feel like my old self, though I confess I'm still a little unsteady walking around compared to before. I'm sure I'll get that back. In fact, I hear that Mom only has one more school day and then we get to play together all summer! As much as I might want a do-over for these last couple of weeks, what's upcoming looks pretty darn good!
After a few days of feeling awful, I feel much better now. I've still got some stuff in my left eye—the doctor says a secondary viral infection—but it should clear up in a few days. In the meantime, I'm just trying to sleep as much as I can. I've discovered that the bed is a very good friend.
Everything was just dandy until yesterday at 3 PM when I blew out a diaper whilst sitting in my high chair. My biter biscuit looked a lot less appetizing after that, I can tell you.
Dad took me out to see Mom at school. I preceeded to blow out a couple more diapers and upchuck all over the carseat on the way home. Don't think that I'm pleased by this turn of events.
Mom and Dad got everything cleaned up. Then I threw up on Mom. Dad put me in the car seat while she got changed, then we drove out to Kaiser North Lancaster. Dad got me out of the car so I threw up on him. I'm not really sure why. Maybe I thought he deserved a turn like Mom. He changed shirts.
I actually had a good time running around the lobby while waiting for my urgent care appointment. Peter Pan was playing on a TV, and there was a lot of space to roam.
The appointment itself was a series of affronts to my personal dignity. Do you have any idea how they took my temperature? They'll be hearing from my attorney. Anyway, I had a low-grade fever, so I'm on children's Motrin.
Today I'm supposed to spend the day taking in only liquids like Pedialyte, so I'm pretty sure it's gonna stink. If the night was any indication, it's just not going to be a happy day. I'm going back to bed.
Fans of yours truly will be thrilled to learn that Dad has finally gotten around to posting another set of images in my photo gallery. This gallery includes pictures of my birthday, me walking about, taking a bath, and just generally being the star that I think I am.
Dad says that he hope to have another photo gallery up soon, and that for folks running Mac OS X, they can subscribe to my screen saver by going to preferences, choosing Dot Mac as the screen saver source and "tydavison" as the user. Everything should auto update from there.
Hurray!
